Mississippi Masala film discussion

In association with Halcyon Arts

A 1991 film about an Indian family that is expelled from Uganda when Idi Amin takes power. The family eventually moves to Mississippi, USA where the now-adult Indian daughter meets and falls in love with a carpet cleaner from the African-American community. Both sides of the family have to reconcile with their prejudices in a climate already rife with racial hatred.

Mississippi Masala is directed by Mira Nair, mother of Zohran Mamdani, the newly elected mayor of New York City who has made ripples across the world, expecially among the BIPOC community of the USA with his offbeat electoral campaign that used several Bollywood references.

On November 19 at 7:30pm EST, in association with Halcyon Arts, I will be hosting a discussion of Mississippi Masala over Google Meet. To participate in the discussion, please fill out your details in the form below, once you do that, you will receive a link to the zoom discussion on your email.
